The Intel Chipset Program Installation Utility installs special Windows INF files. These INF files tell the operating process how to properly configure the chipset for specific functionality, such as USB, Core PCI, and ISAPNP services. Now to the confusing part â these are not the drivers for AGP or USB. The INF files permit the chipset and Windows to work with the drivers. In other words, you need the INF files, and you will need to put in the drivers separately (usually after restarting your computer). Intel give the following important advice: “Do not download this utility if your hardware manufacturer is recommending it to correct ‘usb driver’ issue – it won’t correct your issue.”
Description
Here is as well as a common issue and solution that people face after installing the INF update:
Issue: after rebooting, Windows cannot find UHCD.SYS, USBD.SYS or USBHUB.SYS files. Files appear to be missing or corrupted.
Solution: click the ‘Browse’ button in the dialog box where this error occurs and locate the C:\Windows\System32\drivers listing and click on the ‘OK’ button (if Windows is installed on another drive or location, you ought to alter the location accordingly, eg if it is on the D drive then use D:\Windows\System32\drivers). The process ought to be able to locate this file in this listing and continue checking for the new devices. Also try the driver disks that came along with your hardware.
