Windows Defender is Microsoft’s answer to the growing issue of adware. In 2004, Microsoft bought ‘Giant AntiSpyware’. After some rebranding, Microsoft have released the final version of Windows Defender. Here is what Microsoft must say:

‘Windows Defender is a security expertise that helps protect Windows you from adware & other potentially undesirable application. Known adware on your computer can be detected & removed. This helps reduce negative effects caused by adware, including slow computer performance, annoying pop-up ads, undesirable changes to Web settings, & unauthorized use of your private information.
